potty training school

I reluctantly began potty training school today. Yep, full force. Reluctant, because I think E has shown enough readiness signs, but it'll take mountains of M&Ms to motivate him. He's sort of the type that's hard to move until he makes up his mind to do so. Just ask his speech therapist. This personality trait can be wielded for great things, but it exasperates a mama whose sick of putting gigantic diapers on this child's bum.

It's almost 2.30 pm. We're on our fourth pair of cotton training pants. Totally expected that. He actually did go once in the potty.

Morale is lagging a bit. It's gotta happen one way or another.

I had to comment, if only because I couldn't stand seeing all the spam comments in your sidebar. But also, because I think every parent working on potty training needs some moral support. I think that was probably the most challenging thing for me that we've hit to date. In the end, the only thing that convinced AJ was that he wouldn't be allowed to go to preschool if he was still wearing diapers. The first day we sent him to school in his big boy underwear, I was nervous. We'd never had a totally dry day before. But that was the last day he ever wore a diaper. Maybe it's just a matter of the right incentive.

Little D had a treasure box of chunky Bob the B. (new ones which he had never read) books shaped like the machines and/or tools. He got one, but had to produce on the pot to be rewarded one of the other 6 books in the box. We read the first book many times waiting for further success. He was allowed to gaze longingly into the box each morning for motivation. Once he figured out how it worked, the other 6 books went like lightning. Success. To this day, he stays in there until his reading needs are satiated. LOL

Little D sounds like my kind of boy! Well, if he hit the bucket once, that IS an accomplishment. It's hard to go a whole day without accomplishment, and gratifying if you get it on the first day.
